Colombia Announces Conclusion of Tax Treaty Negotiations with Japan

On 30 July 2018, the Colombian Ministry of Finance issued a release announcing the conclusion of negotiations for an income tax treaty with Japan. According to the release, the treaty includes the following withholding tax rates:

• Dividends – 0% if the beneficial owner is a pension fund; 5% if the beneficial owner is a company holding at least 20% of the paying company's capital; otherwise 10% (15% if paid out of profits not taxed in Colombia)
