Danish Government Presents Plans for Minimum CO2 Tax

On 20 April 2022, the Danish government proposed new green tax reform measures to reach its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030. This includes the introduction of a new CO2 tax with a fixed minimum amount per tonne of CO2 that will be phased in from 2025 to 2030 as follows:

  • Companies not covered by the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS):
    • 2025 - DKK 350
    • 2026 - DKK 430
    • 2027 - DKK 510
    • 2028 - DKK 590
    • 2029 - DKK 670
    • 2030 - DKK 750
