FBI Issues Alert on Mandated Chinese VAT Software

The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation issued Flash Alert AC-000129-TT on 23 July 2020, regarding tax software that is required to be installed by foreign companies operating in China. The mandated software in question is for the purpose of handling VAT payments but, according to the FBI, is also installing backdoor malware that allows for the execution of unauthorized code, the infiltration of networks, and the stealing of proprietary data.
