German Federal Council Approves Maximum Income Basis for Social Security Contributions for 2022

On 26 November 2021, the German Federal Council (upper house of parliament - Bundesrat) gave final approval for the maximum annual income basis for social security contributions for 2022. For pension and unemployment insurance, the maximum basis will be:

• EUR 84,600 for Western Federal States (old States); and
• EUR 81,000 for Eastern Federal States (new States).
