Hungary Takes Over EU Council Presidency

On 1 July 2024, Hungary took over the EU Council Presidency from the Belgian presidency. According to the Programme of the Hungarian Presidency, the priorities during the six-month presidency include:

• A New European Competitiveness Deal;
• The Reinforcement of European Defence Policy;
• A Consistent and Merit-Based Enlargement Policy;
• Stemming Illegal Migration;
• Shaping the Future of Cohesion Policy;
• A Farmer-Centered EU Agricultural Policy; and
• Addressing Demographic Challenges.
