Hungary Takes Over EU Council Presidency

On 1 July 2024, Hungary took over the EU Council Presidency from the Belgian presidency. According to the Programme of the Hungarian Presidency, the priorities during the six-month presidency include:
- A New European Competitiveness Deal;
- The Reinforcement of European Defence Policy;
- A Consistent and Merit-Based Enlargement Policy;
- Stemming Illegal Migration;
- Shaping the Future of Cohesion Policy;
- A Farmer-Centered EU Agricultural Policy; and
- Addressing Demographic Challenges.
