Uganda Considering Repeal of Tax on Social Media

The Ugandan government is reportedly considering a repeal of the tax on social media access that was introduced from 1 July 2018. The tax on social media is levied at a rate of UGX 200 (~USD 0.054) per day for access to so-called over the top (OTT) platforms offering voice and messaging services such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and WhatsApp. The tax is payable through mobile operators, which will restrict access until paid.
